DetailsThe first Black Stump Restaurant was opened in Pennant Hills by butcher Arthur Parsonage. Located on Pennant Hills Road, the family steak restaurant was the first of many Black Stumps to open during the 1970s and 80s. Famous for not only its steaks but also prawns wrapped in bacon, jacket potatoes and corn cobs.
Previously Arthur had been successful as a butcher, opening four stores and then the first Kentucky Fried Chicken franchiser on the North Shore.
After Arthur's death in 1975, his son Robert went on to look after the Black Stump and KFC businesses and became an energetic serial entrepreneur in his own right.
The Black Stump chain were dedicated to keeping their restaurants family friendly and introduced the very popular 'shop-a-docket' scheme during the 1990s.
Unfortunately with changing times and tastes, the Black Stump restaurants went into administration in 2004 and despite the hope of a new investor in 2005, all the Black Stump restaurants eventually closed.
There would be many Hornsby Shire locals who enjoyed a meal or two at the Pennant Hills Black Stump.Date taken2008LocationPennant HillsGeotag[1] KeywordsrestaurantsPennant HillsParsonage FamilyButchersShops and businesses
