Research for Pioneers of Hornsby Shire commenced in 1977 and the book was launched two years later. Chapter 1 was written by Grace Walker, Chapter 2 by Tom Richmond, Chapter 3 by Ralph Hawkins, Chapter 4 by Helen Barker with additions by Ralph Hawkins, Chapter 5 by Tom Richmond, Chapter 6 by Ralph Hawkins, Chapters 7 and 8 by Grace Walker and Thelma Bunyan,Chapter 9 by Grace Walker and Heather Schweikert and the index was compiled by Helen Barker. The book was published by Malcolm Sainty and Keith Johnson of the Library of Australian History at North Sydney. Philip Graham was responsible for the layout, typesetting and maps. Philip Geeves launched the book at the Council Chambers on 23rd August 1979. The publishers and committee then retired to the Kwangtung Palace Restaurant in Pound Rd, Hornsby for dinner.
