DetailsIn 1827 Solomon Wiseman built a punt and was granted a seven year lease on the rights to transport goods and travellers across the Hawkesbury River.
The original site was 2km downstream from its present location but was moved in 1829 when the Devine’s Hill ascent was chosen as the new route for the Great North Road.
Wisemans Ferry remained the principal crossing place for many years, until the opening of the Hawkesbury railway bridge in 1889.
In 1832, the Wisemans ferry service was purchased by the government.
Today two ferry services cross the Hawkesbury River from the town of Wisemans Ferry. LocationWisemans FerryGeotag[1] KeywordsWisemans FerryFerriesHawkesbury River
