DescriptionSale of 10 cottages owned by George Sargent including "Waratah". The houses were in Copeland Road, Beecroft and 7 were designed by local architect William Nixon.
George Sargent was the owner of 36 coffee houses in Sydney and Melbourne but was probably most well-known as the owner of the famous Sargent's Pie company.
George Sargent lived in "Uralla", one of the houses offered for sale. However, with the outbreak of WWI in August 1914, George Sargent decided to postpone the auction until things became clearer what impact the war would have on the real estate market.
It appears that George Sargent was confident enough with the market to re-schedule the auction in January 1915.
