DetailsGeorge Edward Higgins was born at the early Southern Highland goldmining town of Araluen, the 5th of the 13 children of Ann and Thomas (3rd).
George married Alice Leek in 1889 and they had 7 children, Jane, Harold, John, James, Sarah, William and Emily.
George unfortunatle lost his right leg below the knee when he was a young person at Araluen.
George moved his family from the valley to a site opposite Barr Island and later Barr Point, finally retiring to Brooklyn.
George was renowned as an axeman and competed at the Royal Agriculture Show for many years.
George was elected as a councillor to Hornsby's inaugral council.
