DescriptionIn the 1920's the President of Hornsby Shire Paul A. James used his influence to persuade the NSW Mains Roads Board to investigate creating a road from Hookham’s Corner, Hornsby to the Hawkesbury River. The board agreed and a new route was surveyed which in part followed the original Peats Ferry Road.
The road was built in three sections under the direction of Hornsby Shire Council’s Chief Engineer, T. A. Donaldson. The film shows the building of the road using mechanical graders in the less rugged terrain and horse drawn carts in the stepper sections. When the road was formed twenty feet wide concrete pavement slabs were put into place as a top layer.
The road was completed in 1928.
